10 Promises of Seeking God (Pt 2)
by Cynthia Jennings on January 12, 2022As we navigate through this volatile world where promises are broken, the feebleness of man is evident and life’s unexpected is prevalent let’s remember God’s Word is the only stable foundation that does not shift with time or circumstance. He doesn’t crack under pressure, and His promises are ever true (2 Corinthians 1:20).
When you and I take the stand to seek God first – His kingdom and His righteousness – a divine exchange takes place (Matthew 6:33-34). He replaces the heaviness of a worldly yoke ladened with striving and surviving with a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
In committing to a pursuit of God, He promises:
6. Discernment, Understanding & Wisdom Comes to Those Who Seek Him: As we commit to seeking God first, His wisdom and understanding pour over us with true freedom to follow His plan and purpose for our lives. And the foolishness of God is wiser than all human wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:25). From His throne flows the discernment to live every day to the fullest, making the most of every opportunity (Ephesians 5:15-16).
Proverbs 28:5-- Evil men do not understand justice, but those who see the Lord understand it completely.
Proverbs 2:3-6-- Yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,
4 if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
Proverbs 3:6-- In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
7. Seeking God Infuses Hope: Time in God’s presence renews endurance to run the race ahead, a longing to see His kingdom come, and an expectancy to see Him move here on earth. Because He cares for you, you can cast all your apprehension on Him and receive a restored hope for the future.
Lamentation 3:21-25-- But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
1 Peter 5:7-- casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Isaiah 40:31-- but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
8. Those Who Seek Him are Rewarded, Lacking No Good Thing: Any sacrifice you make in seeking God is rewarded by the One who owns it all (Psalm 24:1). Though it may look different than you expect, Jesus promises no one who leaves earthly things in pursuit of Him will fail to receive as much in the present age and the age to come (Mark 10:28-30).
Psalm 34:10-- The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Hebrews 11:6-- And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
9. Seeking God’s Kingdom Leads to Righteousness: Through Christ, we are declared righteous; however, living a virtuous life – daily – does not come easy. By seeking God, we can walk in the Spirit and not gratify the flesh’s desires (Galatians 5:16). We become like those with whom we spend time. Because apart from Him, we cannot produce a righteous life (John 15:5).
Hosea 10:12--Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.
Psalm 24:5-6--He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Psalm 119:10--With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
10. Satisfaction is Found in Seeking God: In a world full of options and the desire for more, it’s easy to become discontent with our lives. The steadfast pursuit of seeking God first is the only source of true satisfaction. He satisfies the hungry, longing soul with good things (Psalm 107:9) and promises that all who come to Him will not hunger or thirst (John 6:35).
Psalm 63:1--O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Psalm 27:4-5--One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
PEARLStoPONDER: Gods Kingdom is the treasure worth shoving everything aside to pursue. Let’s chase Him like the treasure He is, knowing our hearts will follow (Matthew 6:21) and watch these promises come to life.
