The Contentment of Discontent
by Cynthia Jennings on April 10, 2019The Contentment of Discontent
Have you ever wanted something soooo bad and you begin to question God why you are not receiving it? You audibly say, “God what I am asking for is nothing bad in fact what I want will not only be beneficial to me but it will . . . .” You go on to describe how this “thing” you want is a good thing, and to top it off it will be a blessing to Kingdom.
God will withhold a “good thing” so that you can experience a Holy discontentment. A Holy discontentment comes from having an insufficient satisfaction of earthly blessings.
God truly knows our hearts! Thus, He knows the focus and contentment you once had in God, through Jesus Christ, will transfer to this “thing” you want so bad. The earthly satisfaction of obtaining “the good thing” can often override or overtake our focus towards God. When you focus on an earthly reward, the enemy can easily use it as a distraction. You can become so engrossed in doing a “good thing that you abandon what God designed for you to do. The Holy discontentment dissipates because you have been endowed with the satisfaction of earthly blessings.
Sisters, what I’m trying to say is, we often push to get something we want with the justification of it being a “good thing,” when in fact what God is trying to show us that all “good things” are not in His will for your life. The purpose of God withholding “the thing” is for you to experience Holy discontentment. God desires for your contentment with Him grows. No matter how many “good things” we are endowed with that gives us contentment, nothing compares to the contentment that comes from having relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit guiding our lives.
So, I say, don’t fret if “the thing” you want has not come to fruition. God is not punishing you or leaving you out. Instead, He is blessing you more than you can imagine.
Pearl to Ponder: When our hearts cannot find contentment in “good things” remember to long after the greater good in God alone.
Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content
1 Timothy 6:6-7 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out
