10 Promises of Seeking God (pt 1)by Cynthia Jennings on January 5, 2022
Have you ever allowed the pace of life and the promises of the world to lead you from the passion of God?
Throughout life, we often pursue many things, most of which are attached to the promise of some reward. Stocks for a secure future, a house for steady shelter, relationships to combat loneliness and hopes of losing weight to looking great. These are all things we’ve sought after of this world more than seeking His kingdom. But what happens when circumstances change, and promises are broken?
In a volatile world where relationships fade, stock markets crumble, houses deteriorate and friends walk away, God’s Word is the only stable foundation that doesn’t shift with time or circumstance. He doesn’t crack under pressure, and His promises are ever true (2 Corinthians 1:20).
When you and I take the stand to seek God first – His kingdom and His righteousness – a divine exchange takes place (Matthew 6:33-34). He replaces the heaviness of a worldly yoke ladened with striving and surviving with a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
In committing to a pursuit of God, He promises:
1. Seek Him and Receive His Rest: The greatest treasure of seeking the Lord is the promise that we find Him, and, in finding Him, we find rest for our weary souls. He is the source of rest because His yoke is easy, and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).
Proverbs 8:17--I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
Deuteronomy 4:29--But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Jeremiah 29:13-- You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
2. Seeking God Gives You Life: The same God who created life is trustworthy with your life. He came so that you might live abundantly. Seeking God ignites the eternity He placed in every heart and sets our mind on eternal things. While the world says, seek fulfillment to find life, God’s word says in seeking Him, you will fulfill your life.
Psalm 32:8--I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Genesis 2:7-- then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
Job 33:4--The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Jeremiah 29:11-- For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
3.Those Who Seek God Finds Strength: His strength is limitless. When our knees become weak from pressure and our hands tremble with fear, He strengthens and steadies our way. It’s in those lowest moments where His strength shines the brightest. Here we mount wings of eagles to soar above the earthly circumstances, to run and not grow weary (Isaiah 40:31).
1 Chronicles 16:11--Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Exodus 15:2--The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!4 Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Ephesians 6:10-- Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
4.Seeking God Fills You with Joy & Gladness: Joy is found in giving the Master the keys to your heart. Sitting in the presence of Him, who is more precious than gold and sweeter than honey. He revives our souls, gives light to our eyes, and overflowing joy to our hearts. With everlasting joy to crown your head, gladness will overtake you, and sorrow and sighing will flee away (Isaiah 35:10).
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Psalm 40:16--But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, “God is great!”
Romans 15:13--May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
5.Choosing to Seek God Leads to Deliverance: God has never forsaken those who diligently seek Him. Those who trust in Him will never be abandoned (Psalm 9:10). He is a fortified tower of safety for all who run to Him (Proverbs 18:10).
I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.5 Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.19 He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.20 The Lord preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart.
1 John 4:4-- Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
PEARLStoPONDER: God’s promises are always true, it’s us that often doubt. Have you doubt kept you from standing on God’s promises?
